Still Life with Asphodels

Description : Print by Ren Strapp, based on the painting Henri Matisse 1907. Works in the post-impressionist movement primarily concerned day-to-day life and subjects painted from observation; artists during this time used new, unconventional techniques to convey their subjects as they truly felt. While this movement had relatively more queer representation as we would identify it today when compared to previous movements, I wanted to push it further. By transforming one of Matisse's many floral still lives into a 21st century queer bedside table, I hope to connect people to a piece of history in a meaningful way.
