A Bit About Us

  • We’re a warm and cozy space - imagine a maximalist queer living room full of soft imagery and bright colors. In addition to being a cute local gift shop we’re also a gallery space, tattoo studio, and queer bookstore. We’re driven by a COVID-conscious, consent-driven ethos looking to center queer art practices and gentle tattoo spaces. If you haven’t yet, come visit us in person! 
  • We prioritize local artists but do carry art from folks all over the US!
  • We pay out consignors monthly at a consignment rate of 70% to artists and 30% to us via cash, check, Venmo, or Paypal. Payout amounts under $10 will be held until the next month, unless it is an artist's last month in which case no amount will be withheld.
  • A non-refundable one-time $20 setup fee is required for consignors who are new to us and each contract is 6 months long.
  • We support the creativity and hard work of artists and will not accept any AI-generated art or writing.
  • Because we’re also a tattoo studio we can’t take consumable containers (mugs, pill-trays, etc), jewelry, and tend to not take fabric items. We also don’t tend to take fanart or explicit art. 
  • Our store is full of great artists currently so our current turnover for new artists is pretty small - we usually take on about one new artist every month.
  • Fun things we’re currently looking for more of: buttons, washi (wrapped, not in box containers), small woodburn art, pins, temporary tattoo sheets, and cards! 

Requirements

  • Bringing on your art is a big deal and we want to treat it as such! That means we tend to take on a lot of your art at the beginning to make it worth it for both of us. Please apply when you believe you have at least 10 art products you think we’d be interested in. 
  • Since all consignment art appears in our in-person and on our online store, we'll need to see evidence that products have titles, descriptions, and attractive product photos - an online store or catalog is usually a great way to do that!
  • All prints must be backed and sleeved. If they arrive to us bare or unbacked they will incur an account fee applied at the rate of $2/print, removed from the artist’s payout, to cover the cost of backing and sleeving by Sonny’s House. All returned prints will retain their sleeving. 
  • All pins, keychains, sticker sheets, and patches must be hangable. If they arrive to us unhangable they will incur an account fee applied at the rate of $0.50/item, removed from the artist’s payout, to cover the cost of adding a permanent plastic adhesive hanger by Sonny’s House. All returned pins, keychains, and patches will retain their hanger. 

Timeline

  • We’re a team of two juggling a whole shop so we tend to respond to artists whose work we’re interested in within 4 weeks. In the case that your art isn’t the right for Sonny’s House at this time, on the submission form you’ll have the option to opt for no response, a generic but kind denial email, or a kind denial email with feedback - we want to help get your art in stores even if ours isn’t the perfect fit!
  • If we take on your art we’ll ask you to fill out the consignment contract, art list spreadsheet, and submit the $20 set up fee. 
  • After that we’ll accept your art and business cards (optional), and usually take about 2 weeks (max 4 weeks during busier months) to process your art, add price stickers, and display in-store! We’ll also invite you to join our consignment system where you can see when things have sold, as well as share a link to your art in our online shop to share with your audience!
  • At the end of the 6 month period we’ll send you an email letting you know that the contract is ending (and potentially ask you to renew if our audience responded well to your work). If any art is remaining you’ll have two months to pick-up or pay for shipping of your art back to you. Any art left uncollected 60 days after our expiration email will be donated to local raffles and zine libraries.
